And to resist the urge to join the traveling circus

Wet tee shirt contest.... well, no.

Quad and I enjoyed a free breakfast at his hotel....delicious cream filled pastries and some very odd tasting "syrup" for the french toast.  We're living large, I tell you.

The plan was to start the day at the Ferria de San Telmo.  San Telmo is one of the oldest parts of the city--- a network of small, cobblestoned streets and alleys.  Every Sunday, the streets in this area are closed off to auto traffic and craftspeople, antique dealers and sellers of junk all set up tables, stands, and booths in the streets.  The main square had a lot of booths with legitimate antiques and interesting items.  As we walked away from the main square, things devolved into sort of tag sale atmosphere-- lots of tchotzches and souvenirs.

Here's my handsome brother riding the Subte.

                            Hot sun, crowds, vendors.

A whole stall full of old records.  Thank god my father is safely esconced in Masachusetts.

We take a much needed refreshment break.  It was almost 90 degrees.

After wandering around San Telmo, we decided to go to Palermo to check out the festivities surrounding the end of the Dakar race.  This race used to take place in Africa-- starting or ending in Dakar, Senegal.  Due to security issues, the race was moved to South America.  Trucks, cars, dune buggies, motorcycles, and 4 wheelers race through Argentina and Chile.  Today was the end of the race.  Honestly, I was not entirely clear about what we were watching, but the locals seemed excited, so I was too.

At one point, the sky clouded over and it looked like the apocolypse was upon us.

And then a tremendous thunderstorm started.  It was futile to try and stay dry, so we got soaked and walked part of the way back to the hotel.  The news is reporting power outages, trees down, and some folks had hail.  It dropped nearly 20 degrees (F) in an hour.

Good thing my brother is getting the full Buenos Aires experience.

The great scientific count:  who knows?  ?? 25-ish
